The South Tama County boys track and field team had an impressive showing at the Union High School track meet in La Porte City last Thursday. Despite their first scheduled meet being canceled due to weather conditions, the Trojans were ready to compete and make their mark on the track.

With ideal weather conditions of 50 degrees and no wind, the athletes were in top form. In the sprint events, sophomore Nick Upah and junior Cody Blocker placed well in the 100m and 200m dashes, respectively. Senior James Brant dominated the 400m dash with a winning time of 53.43.

The distance events saw the Trojans excel even further. Senior Tommy Tyynismaa and Cade Rosenberger showcased their skills in the 800m dash, with Tyynismaa taking first place. In the 1600m race, senior Braxten Rohrs and Holden Schirmer placed second and fourth, respectively. The 3200m race saw senior Brant and sophomore Barrett Jesina secure a 1-2 finish for the Trojans.

The relay teams also performed admirably, with the 4×400 squad taking first place and the 4×800 team finishing second overall. In the field events, South Tama athletes placed well in the long jump, shot put, and discus.

Overall, the Trojans finished with a strong team score of 131.5 points, earning them a second-place finish behind the Union Knights. Despite a canceled home meet due to weather, the South Tama boys track and field team has shown great promise for the rest of the season.
