Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry added another accolade to his impressive career by winning the NBA’s Clutch Player of the Year award for the second time. The award, created last season, recognizes the player who excels in “clutch time,” defined as the final five minutes of the fourth quarter or overtime when the game is within five points.
Curry, 36, led the league in clutch points this season with 189, narrowly edging out DeMar DeRozan of the Chicago Bulls who had 182 clutch points. Despite DeRozan’s higher average of 4.6 points per game compared to Curry’s 4.4, it was Curry who received 45 first-place votes to secure the honor.
In addition to his Clutch Player of the Year award, Curry boasts an impressive resume that includes two NBA MVP awards, an NBA Finals MVP, 10 All-Star appearances, and four NBA championships. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest shooters in NBA history.
The Clutch Player of the Year award is symbolized by the Jerry West Trophy, named after the legendary Los Angeles Lakers star known as “Mr. Clutch” for his ability to perform under pressure. Last season’s recipient was De’Aaron Fox of the Sacramento Kings.
As the NBA award season continues, with Tyrese Maxey winning Most Improved Player and Naz Reid earning Sixth Man of the Year, fans eagerly await the announcements for Coach of the Year, Rookie of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, and MVP. Curry’s latest achievement further solidifies his place among the NBA’s elite players.
