Stough and Ferns Dominate Half Marathon Walk: Latest News, Sports, and Job Opportunities

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Lee Stough emerged victorious in the Ogden Wellness Weekend Half Marathon Walk, finishing the 13-mile course in 2:07:12. Stough, a Glassport, Pennsylvania native, had a strong motivation to win this year after coming in second place in the previous year’s race. He mentioned that the announcer’s comment last year fueled his determination to claim the title this time around.

The challenging course, with elevations reaching up to 1,200 feet, tested Stough’s endurance and resilience. Despite the warmer weather and the sun beating down on him, Stough maintained a steady pace and built a significant lead over the competition. He emphasized the importance of being well-trained and mentally prepared to tackle the tough hills of the course.

Wheeling native Nate Schneider secured the third position, followed by James Lapinski from Blacklick, Ohio in fourth place. The women’s champion, Heidi Ferns, crossed the finish line in 2:40:52, attributing her success to improved health and fitness.

Ferns, a former competitive swimmer, expressed her love for the challenging course and hills. After taking a break from racing to focus on raising her children, Ferns returned to competitive running alongside her friend Kathy Ervin. Brenda Colvin, another Wheeling native, finished as the second-place woman in the race.

The Ogden Wellness Weekend Half Marathon Walk showcased the determination and dedication of the participants, with Stough and Ferns emerging as the champions in their respective categories. The event brought together runners from different backgrounds and locations, highlighting the spirit of competition and camaraderie in the running community.
