Student Filmmakers to be Highlighted at Annual Festival

UNC Student Film Association (CFA) recently held its annual film festival, showcasing the creative talents of student filmmakers on campus. One standout project was “So You Wanna Be a Tar Heel,” a UNC satire described by creator Ware as a mix of “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” and a guide to surviving life at UNC.

Nathan Poesel, co-president of CFA, expressed excitement about the festival, highlighting the opportunity for filmmakers to showcase their work to a live audience and for attendees to discover underground talent on campus. To enhance the interactive experience, physical scripts were provided to audience members to encourage participation.

The awards ceremony recognized the hard work put into the 24 films, with categories like best picture, best actor, and best director. This year, new categories for best sound design and people’s choice were added, adding to the excitement of the event.

Beyond the awards, the collaborative spirit of the festival was praised by Gentry, emphasizing the unity it brings to the UNC community. Attendees were encouraged to dress in black tie attire for the ceremony, adding a touch of glamour to the event.

Huffman, another student involved in the festival, urged anyone interested in film to attend and experience the creativity and camaraderie of CFA. The festival not only celebrates student talent but also inspires future involvement and improvement within the organization.
