Students at the Geneseo CTE Center are mastering advanced metal-working techniques.

Geneseo School District’s Career and Technical Education Center is making waves with its innovative programs and opportunities for students. The center, which opened in August of 2023, is already providing students with real-world skills that can lead to exciting career opportunities.

One standout example is student Joseph Venneberg, who showcased his computer-aided design (CAD) work and computer numeric controlled (CNC) process in making an aluminum part. The precision of the Tormach1100M machine, accurate to 5,000ths of an inch, is just one example of the high-tech equipment students are working with at the center. In fact, students are even getting hands-on experience with $80,000 machines at Geneseo firearms manufacturer Springfield Armory through apprenticeships.

Instructor Kyle Bess shared with the school board the exciting news that students from the Career and Technical Education program could potentially land jobs building aerospace parts for the SpaceX program, opening up doors to the outer space industry.

Looking ahead, the school district is planning to transition to a standards-based reporting system, with elementary teachers already piloting the program. Superintendent Adam Brumbaugh and teachers presented their recommendations to the school board, outlining a gradual switch to standards-based reporting starting in the 2025-26 school year.

Additionally, the school board approved the continuation of weekly one-hour late starts at the high school to allow teachers to engage in professional learning communities. This adjustment will not only benefit teachers but also ensure that students receive the best possible education. The future looks bright for Geneseo students as they continue to excel in the Career and Technical Education Center.
