The Wisconsin Black Chamber of Commerce hosted its third Mommy & Me Pre-Mother’s Day Fitness Walk at Veterans Park in Milwaukee to celebrate Mother’s Day. The event, which aims to prioritize health while honoring motherhood, featured experienced fitness instructors leading participants on either a one-mile walk or two-mile run. Workout stations along the route catered to all levels of fitness experience.
After the walk/run, attendees enjoyed post-walk activities such as music and giveaways by Jammin 98.3 Radio Station. Fitness classes, yoga, food vendors, health screenings, wellness products, and a chance to win prizes were also available. A new feature this year allowed participants to go on boat rides at the Milwaukee Community Sailing Center for an additional $5.
Registration was free for children and $10 for adults. CEO Ruben Hopkins emphasized the event’s focus on health, family, and community, stating, “The Mommy & Me Pre-Mother’s Day Fitness Walk is more than just a walk or run; it’s a celebration of health, family, and community.”
The Wisconsin Black Chamber of Commerce, founded by Hopkins 13 years ago, aims to improve the quality of life in Black communities by promoting Black-owned businesses. The Mommy & Me event is just one of many events held by the chamber, with future events scheduled through September. Visit their website for more information.
