Successful Conclusion of APRM’s Second Continental Training on South-South and Triangular Cooperation

The African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) recently wrapped up its second continental capacity program on South-South and Triangular Cooperation (SSTrC), in collaboration with key partners such as the Islamic Development Bank, UN World Food Program, and International Fund for Agriculture Development. The program, held from March 6 to April 11, 2024, brought together 286 participants from Africa, India, Brazil, and beyond, aiming to deepen their understanding of SSTrC and its role in advancing Agenda 2063 and the Sustainable Development Goals.

Participants gained valuable insights into the history and importance of SSTrC for Africa’s development, as well as explored horizontal partnerships within South-South Cooperation. They also learned about monitoring and evaluation frameworks to assess the impact of SSTrC on the continent, enhancing their ability to measure effectiveness.

The program featured access to APRM’s Knowledge Hub platform, where participants engaged with knowledge materials and interacted with renowned experts in the field. The success of the program highlights the commitment of African countries and their partners to utilize SSTrC for regional and global development, aligning with the AU-UN framework for Agenda 2063 and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Moving forward, the outcomes of the program will support the Technical Support to the third Africa High-Level Forum on Triangular and South-South Cooperation, scheduled to take place in Sierra Leone by December 2024. This forum will leverage the momentum of the program to coordinate national and regional efforts for maximizing the benefits of SSTrC, especially with the recent adoption of the Second-Ten Year Implementation plan of Agenda 2063 emphasizing SSTrC’s importance in Africa’s developmental priorities on the global stage.
