Successful Kickoff of IJF World Judo Tour in Abu Dhabi

The IJF World Judo Tour has kicked off in the United Arab Emirates with the highly anticipated 2024 edition of the World Championships, showcasing the world’s top judoka vying for glory.

In the -48kg category, Italian judoka Assunta Scutto and Mongolian Baasankhuu Bavuudorj battled their way to the final. In a tense showdown, Bavuudorj seized the moment with a decisive move to claim her first world title, much to the delight of her supporters.

Moving on to the -60kg division, Yung Wei Yang and Giorgi Sardalashvili faced off in the final. Sardalashvili, with a well-timed counterattack, secured victory and became the youngest world champion from Georgia, fulfilling a childhood dream.

The -52kg final saw Diyora Keldiyorova from Uzbekistan take on Italian veteran Odette Giuffrida. In a thrilling match, Giuffrida’s skillful footwork earned her the winning score, leading to an emotional celebration as she clinched her first world title.

Giuffrida attributed her success to the magic of Abu Dhabi, where the championships are being held. She expressed her gratitude for the support and vowed to continue giving her best in the competition.

The World Judo Championships will continue until May 24 as part of the IJF World Tour and the 2024 Summer Olympics qualification period, culminating in a mixed team event on the final day. Stay tuned for more thrilling judo action and historic moments in the days to come.
