Sue Bird and Megan Rapinoe team up for LGBTQ+ soccer romance ‘Cleat Cute’

Sports icons Sue Bird and Megan Rapinoe are taking their talents from the field to the screen as they venture into TV production. The dynamic duo has launched their production banner, A Touch More, and has partnered with independent TV studio Future Shack Entertainment to bring the bestselling novel “Cleat Cute” by author Meryl Wilsner to life.

“Cleat Cute” is a contemporary queer romance that follows a young soccer player navigating her way through being a rookie, striving to make the national team, and embarking on a romance with her team captain. The project aims to capture the essence of relationships formed through sports, both romantic and platonic.

Future Shack CEO Jeff Wachtel expressed excitement about the collaboration, highlighting the universal appeal of sports as a platform for compelling storytelling. Bird, Rapinoe, and A Touch More’s head of development Camille Bernier-Green will serve as executive producers for the project, alongside Wilsner.

The production of “Cleat Cute” marks A Touch More’s first venture into scripted content since its inception in 2022. The company, founded by Bird and Rapinoe in partnership with TOGETHXR, aims to champion diverse stories in the sports and entertainment industry.

With the success of Wilsner’s novel and the growing popularity of women’s sports globally, the collaboration between Bird, Rapinoe, and Future Shack Entertainment is poised to create a bold, sexy, and fun ensemble show that celebrates the beauty and complexity of sports and relationships.
