As the scorching heat of summer envelops Bangladesh, it becomes crucial to make dietary changes to stay healthy and hydrated. Chief Clinical Dietician, Chowdhury Tasneem Hasin, shared some valuable tips to keep our bodies in top shape during the sweltering season.
One of the key suggestions is to add probiotics like yogurt to your diet. Not only does it help in retaining water content in the body, but it also boosts immunity and aids in digestion. Cutting down on coffee and tea is also advised, as they act as diuretics, expelling water from the body. Instead, opt for a refreshing glass of lemon juice.
Vitamin C is essential for a strong immune system, so incorporating sour ingredients like lemon into your diet is recommended. It’s also important to reduce salt intake, as excessive sodium can lead to high blood pressure. Switching from red meat to fish as a source of protein can also help in digestion and reduce inflammation.
With the rise in temperature, the proliferation of harmful bacteria in food becomes a concern. It is advisable to store food in the refrigerator for temporary periods to prevent spoilage. Hydration is key in the summer months, with experts recommending an increase in water intake by 500ml to combat the heatwave. Mineral water, containing potassium, can aid in water retention.
By making these simple dietary changes, one can ensure a healthy and hydrated summer season in Bangladesh.
