Supporters of Palestinian Rights Expected to Rally in Thousands on Washington’s National Mall

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Thousands of protesters are expected to gather in Washington D.C. this Saturday for a rally in support of Palestinian rights and an immediate end to Israeli military operations in Gaza. The event, marking the 76th anniversary of the Nakba, which refers to the exodus of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians in 1948, is expected to draw a large crowd.

In a surprising move, rally organizers did not apply for permits from the National Park Service, which typically oversees such events on the National Mall. Despite the lack of permits, the Park Service stated they would prioritize safety and protection of park resources while supporting the First Amendment rights of all visitors.

The rally comes amidst ongoing violence in Gaza, with the latest Israel-Hamas conflict resulting in casualties on both sides. Protesters are also expressing anger over the crackdown on pro-Palestinian camps at universities across the country.

In addition to calling for an immediate end to hostilities in Gaza, demonstrators are expected to advocate for the right of return for Palestinian refugees, a contentious issue in Israeli-Palestinian negotiations. The refugee community, numbering around 6 million, has faced displacement and living in refugee camps in various countries.

The rally is set to be a powerful display of solidarity and activism in support of Palestinian rights, with participants demanding justice and peace in the region.
