Steubenville High School alum Sylvia Crawley Spann is set to be inducted into the Ohio Basketball Hall of Fame’s 2024 Class, marking a significant milestone in her illustrious basketball career. Spann’s journey began at Steubenville High, where she dominated on the court with impressive stats during her senior season.

Moving on to the University of North Carolina, Spann continued to shine, contributing significantly to the team’s success and even winning a National Championship during her senior year. Her impact was so profound that UNC retired her jersey number in her honor in 2000.

Spann’s basketball prowess extended beyond college as she played professionally in 16 different countries, earning Silver and Gold Medals while representing the United States in international competitions. She also made history by participating in the first independent women’s basketball league and winning the inaugural women’s Slam Dunk Contest with a perfect score.

Aside from her basketball achievements, Spann is also a licensed minister, motivational speaker, and clothing designer, showcasing her diverse talents and unwavering dedication.
