Syosset boys tennis secures state championship with strong doubles play

Syosset High School’s boys tennis team secured their second consecutive NYSPHSAA Division I state title with a dominant performance against Mamaroneck on Friday. Despite a strong start from Mamaroneck, Syosset’s depth in doubles matches proved to be the difference-maker in the championship match.

After Mamaroneck claimed the first two singles matches, Syosset’s doubles teams went on a winning streak that sealed the victory. Spencer Keschner and Jacob Prince, Vyed Trivedi and Terrence Moy, Shiva Chadha and Ansh Jolly, and Aayan Mehta and Ryan Jiang all secured wins in the doubles matches, leading Syosset to a 4-2 triumph.

Syosset’s coach, Shai Fisher, emphasized the importance of team chemistry and the players’ ability to perform under pressure. The team’s doubles pairs were undefeated in the state tournament, showcasing their strong partnership on the court.

Despite facing early losses in the season, Syosset rallied to claim the state championship, making the victory even sweeter for the team. Senior captain Keschner expressed his pride in the team’s resilience and determination throughout the season.

In the Division II final, Friends Academy fell short against Bronxville, losing 3-1 in a hard-fought match. Despite their efforts, Friends Academy was unable to secure enough wins in key matches to overcome Bronxville’s strong performance.

Overall, both Syosset and Friends Academy displayed skill and sportsmanship in their respective state championship matches, highlighting the competitive nature of high school tennis in New York.
