Chanel Cruise 2025 Collection Takes Fashionistas on a Sun-Drenched Journey
As the weather cools down in the Southern Hemisphere, the Chanel Cruise 2025 collection is transporting fashion lovers to warmer pastures with its latest offerings. Creative director Virginie Viard showcased her vision on the rooftop of the Cite Radieuse, a historic apartment building in Marseille, France, setting the stage for a sun-soaked runway experience.
The show opened with a playful twist on the iconic Chanel tweed suit, featuring vibrant aniseed green hues and a grey sweatshirt collar peeking out from underneath. The collection introduced a key shoe trend for the Cruise season: ballet flats resembling water shoes, made from thick scuba-like material. This laid-back look set the tone for a holiday-inspired wardrobe that included athletically-cut one-piece swimsuits with diving hoods, perfect for days spent by the water.
Viard drew inspiration from the lifestyle codes and everyday movements for this collection, as she explained in the show notes. The pieces exuded a sense of ease and movement, with summer-ready throwovers like chunky fisherman knits and side-opening dresses paired with terry towelling platform flip flops for a relaxed yet chic vibe.
The designer also paid homage to the rich history and vibrant culture of Marseille, the oldest city in France, through delicate lace dresses and eclectic jewelry reminiscent of the pieces found in local markets. Viard’s childhood memories of the south of France were reflected in the collection, capturing the essence of Marseille’s energy and allure.
“Marseille is a city that puts me in touch with my emotions,” Viard expressed in the show notes. “I tried to capture its power of attraction, its breath of fresh air, and to convey the energy that reigns there.” The collection aimed to embody the city’s spirit and evoke a sense of wanderlust and adventure.
Before the runway show began, A-list attendees such as Lily Rose Depp, Phoebe Tonkin, and Sadie Sink were treated to a tour of the Cite Radieuse and its eclectic boutiques and businesses. From vintage furniture stores to bookshops, the venue offered a glimpse into the vibrant cultural scene of Marseille, adding to the overall experience of the event.
The Chanel Cruise 2025 collection not only showcased the latest trends and designs but also transported fashion enthusiasts to a sun-drenched destination filled with nostalgia and modernity. With its blend of casual elegance and holiday-inspired pieces, the collection invites us to dream of warmer days and embrace the spirit of adventure and exploration.
