Google’s Gemini API developer contest is making waves at the I/O conference with the announcement of cash prizes up to $300,000 and a grand prize that will have developers revving their engines – a custom electric 1981 DeLorean. This unique vehicle, built by DeLorean Midwest and commissioned by Google, boasts impressive specs with a Tesla Model 3 engine swap, making it the world’s fastest DeLorean.
The DeLorean’s restoration preserved its original interior while adding modern EV gauges and a spacious trunk where the gas engine used to be. With a range of 200-260 miles, this electric DeLorean is a true collector’s item. DeLorean Midwest is now offering custom-built versions for $220,000, a price tag that includes the Tesla Model 3 components.
The developer contest, which kicks off today, challenges participants to build an app using the Gemini API and submit a demo video for a chance to win the grand prize DeLorean and cash prizes starting at $50,000. Judged on criteria like Remarkability, Creativity, and Impactfulness, developers have until Aug. 12 to submit their entries.
With the final voting taking place in September, developers have plenty of time to showcase their skills and compete for the coveted prizes. This contest is a golden opportunity for developers to flex their creative muscles and potentially drive home in a one-of-a-kind electric DeLorean.
