The U.S. News & World Report has just released the top 25 cities that offer the highest quality of life in the United States. Among the rankings, three Tallahassee high schools have made it to the top 100 in Florida.

The rankings were based on various factors including students’ math and reading proficiencies on state assessments, graduation rates, socioeconomic backgrounds, and performance in Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate exams. These exams accounted for college readiness data, which heavily influenced a school’s rank.

The rankings also considered how successful schools were at educating all students, including those from low-income backgrounds, based on state assessment performances.

In the top five Florida high schools for 2024, Pine View School in Sarasota County Schools took the lead, followed by Millennium 6-12 Collegiate Academy in Broward County Schools, Westshore Junior/Senior High School in Brevard Public Schools, Archimedean Upper Conservatory Charter School in Miami Dade County Public Schools, and Stanton College Preparatory School in Duval County Public Schools.

Among Tallahassee high schools, Lawton Chiles High School ranked 56th, Florida State University High School ranked 87th, and Leon High School ranked 100th. Schools like Lincoln High School, SAIL, James S. Rickards High School, Amos P. Godby High School, and Florida A&M University’s Developmental Research School also made the list.

Overall, Florida schools performed well in the rankings, with Massachusetts leading the pack in the state-by-state comparison. Florida ranked fifth with 37.4% of its high schools in the top 25% of the rankings.
