Tallahassee, Florida High Schools Ranked by U.S. News & World Report

Three Tallahassee high schools have made it to the top 100 in U.S. News & World Report’s Best High School rankings for Florida. The rankings, which evaluated 647 schools across the state, took into account various factors such as students’ math and reading proficiencies, graduation rates, socioeconomic backgrounds, and performance on Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate exams.

The rankings heavily weighted college readiness data from AP and IB exams, making up 30% of the assessment to determine a school’s rank. Additionally, the rankings assessed how successful schools were at educating all students, including those from low-income backgrounds, based on state assessment performances.

Among the top five high schools in Florida for 2024 are Pine View School in Sarasota County, Millennium 6-12 Collegiate Academy in Broward County, Westshore Junior/Senior High School in Brevard County, Archimedean Upper Conservatory Charter School in Miami-Dade County, and Stanton College Preparatory School in Duval County.

In Tallahassee, the top-ranked high schools within the top 100 for the state include Lawton Chiles High School at 56, Florida State University High School at 87, and Leon High School at 100.

The rankings also revealed lower-ranked schools in the report, such as Lincoln High School, SAIL, James S. Rickards High School, Amos P. Godby High School, and Florida A&M University’s Developmental Research School.

Overall, Florida schools performed well in the rankings, with Massachusetts leading the pack as the top performer. Florida ranked fifth in the state-by-state comparison, with 37.4% of its high schools in the top 25% of the rankings.
