Reading Time: < 1 minute

Maria Feliciana, once one of the world’s tallest women, has passed away at the age of 77 after battling pneumonia. Standing at an impressive 7ft 3.8in in her early twenties, Maria was considered the world’s tallest woman for many years until she started shrinking later in life. She was overtaken by the current tallest woman, Rumeysa Gelgi, who stands at 7ft 0.71in.

Maria’s family confirmed that she had been struggling with health issues for years and ultimately succumbed to pneumonia at a private hospital in Aracaju, Brazil. Known for her talents as a basketball player and singer, Maria became a household name in Brazil following her sudden growth spurt.

Born as a normal 10-year-old, Maria’s height skyrocketed, eventually earning her the title of Brazil’s tallest woman by her late teens. Her father and paternal grandfather also grew to impressive heights, with her father measuring at 7ft 8.7in and her grandfather at 7ft 5.4in.

The news of Maria’s passing led to Aracaju’s mayor declaring three days of mourning in her honor. Tributes poured in from all corners, with the governor of Sergipe acknowledging her remarkable legacy and the impact she had on putting Sergipe and Brazilian culture on the national and international map.

Maria’s larger-than-life presence and achievements will be remembered by many, and her legacy as one of the world’s tallest women will live on.
