Tuscaloosa Academy’s Jonni Kneer is a force to be reckoned with on the tennis court, juggling a rigorous schedule of school, practice, and competition to become a six-time tennis state champion. Recently, Kneer clinched the Class 1A-3A boys No. 1 singles and doubles state titles at the 2024 AHSAA tennis state championships, marking his first AHSAA title after previously securing four AISA tennis state titles.

The 17-year-old athlete, who also boasts two AISA soccer state titles, made the tough decision to focus solely on tennis this year, a choice that paid off immensely. Kneer’s dedication and hard work have not gone unnoticed, with his coach Clete Browder praising his commitment, discipline, and unwavering competitive spirit.

Originally from Germany, Kneer and his older brother Oli moved to Tuscaloosa in 2009, where they found success at Tuscaloosa Academy. Tennis quickly became more than just a hobby for Jonni, propelling him to victory at the state level from a young age.

Outside of high school competition, Kneer competes year-round in the USTA, traveling to tournaments across the Southeast with his father. His experiences at prestigious events like the Orange Bowl International Tennis Championships have fueled his ambition to excel in the sport.

Looking ahead, Jonni has his sights set on playing college tennis, with the University of Alabama being a top choice. With an impressive record of 98 wins in the No. 1 spot for the Knights, Kneer is determined to see how far his talent and hard work can take him in the world of tennis.
