Tata Group and Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation (PSMC) have embarked on a groundbreaking journey towards producing cutting-edge chip technology in India. With the recent initiation of their semiconductor fabrication plant in Dholera, Gujarat, the companies are set to revolutionize the industry with the production of 14 nanometer (nm) chips.

These 14 nm chips are a significant advancement from the 28 nm nodes that Tata Electronics and PSMC initially planned to manufacture. The new technology promises enhanced energy efficiency, power, and speed, making them ideal for a wide range of products such as tablets, laptops, smartphones, and electric vehicles.

The demand for advanced chips is on the rise globally, and Tata Electronics is poised to capitalize on this trend with their state-of-the-art fabrication unit. The company has already secured advance orders for their 28 nm chips and is gearing up to meet the growing market demand for more advanced nodes.

The Dholera fab plant is expected to have a capacity of 50,000 wafers per month, producing a staggering 3 billion chips annually. This massive undertaking will not only cater to commercial sectors but also play a crucial role in strategic industries like high-performance computing, electric vehicles, defense, and consumer electronics.

With the first chip expected to roll out by the end of 2026, Tata Group is on track to make a significant impact on the semiconductor industry in India.
