The Southwest Minnesota State baseball team pulled off an impressive doubleheader sweep against Concordia-St. Paul, with two thrilling walk-off wins at Legion Field on Saturday. In the first game, the Mustangs secured a 3-2 victory in extra innings with a walk-off walk from Jaxson Haase. The game remained tied at 2-2 until the ninth inning when Haase showed discipline at the plate, drawing a five-pitch walk to bring in the winning run.

In the second game, with the score tied at 5-5 in the seventh inning, Jake Tauer stepped up to the plate with the bases loaded and one out. Tauer wasted no time, swinging at the first pitch he saw and hitting a walk-off single to right-center field, allowing Keenan Wenzel to sprint home for the winning run. The Mustangs celebrated Tauer’s heroics as they clinched a 6-5 victory over the Golden Bears.

The wins marked a successful series for Southwest Minnesota State, as they claimed three out of four games against Concordia-St. Paul after splitting Friday’s doubleheader. Pitchers Ryan Chmielewski and Bennett Knapper delivered strong performances on the mound, while the offense came through in clutch situations to secure the victories.

With the wins, SMSU improved to 17-11 overall and moved up to seventh place in the NSIC standings. Concordia-St. Paul, on the other hand, fell to 16-13 overall and now sits in ninth place in the conference. The Mustangs will look to carry this momentum into their upcoming doubleheader against first-place Wayne State in Wayne, Nebraska.
