Escanaba High School senior Taylor Forvilly was honored with the first-ever Becca Piron Scholarship, a $1,000 award presented by 2015 Escanaba graduate Rebecca Piron-Campbell. The scholarship, along with a plaque, is given to a senior on the Escanaba Softball team who demonstrates leadership qualities both on and off the field.

Piron-Campbell, who played college softball at Lansing Community College and Ferris State University, wanted to give back to the community that supported her athletic and academic career. She was impressed by the essays submitted by the three senior softball players, but Forvilly’s essay stood out to her the most.

Forvilly’s essay focused on the importance of being a leader, even in challenging times, and the impact that leadership can have on a team. Her dedication to her teammates and her commitment to the game earned her the scholarship and recognition from Piron-Campbell.

The scholarship and plaque were presented to Forvilly before a game, where she expressed her gratitude and excitement for the future. Forvilly plans to attend Bay College and pursue a degree in law at Northern Michigan University.

Escanaba Softball coach Andy Fields praised Piron-Campbell for her generosity and recognized Forvilly’s hard work and dedication both on the field and in the classroom. The scholarship not only rewards Forvilly for her leadership skills but also serves as a reminder of the impact one person can have on a team and a community.
