Teachers and Office of Education come to a contract agreement

The Contra Costa County School Educators Association and the Contra Costa County Office of Education have reached a tentative contract agreement that includes a significant raise for teachers. The two-year agreement, once ratified, will give CCCSEA members a 6 percent raise retroactive to July 1, 2023, and a 1 percent raise effective on July 1, 2024.

The Office of Education stated that this tentative settlement ensures that CCCOE teachers remain the highest compensated public school educators in Contra Costa County. County superintendent of schools Lynn Mackey expressed her satisfaction with the agreement, stating, “I am pleased that we were able to bring these negotiations to an end. This agreement increases the compensation for our hardworking certificated employees while ensuring that this agency remains fiscally sound.”

In addition to the salary increases, the parties also agreed to create ad hoc committees to finalize student intake procedures for Golden Gate Community School and CCCOE’s special education programs. These procedures are expected to be completed by December 31, 2024.

One notable provision in the agreement allows for the renegotiation of salaries for the 2024-25 school year if the funded statutory cost of living adjustment is greater than 2 percent.

The tentative agreement will now be put to a vote by bargaining unit members for ratification. This news comes as a positive development for teachers in Contra Costa County and highlights the ongoing efforts to support and compensate educators for their hard work.
