Teams gear up for Dick Dei Classic Track Meet

The Dick Dei Track Classic held at Wheeling Park High School over the weekend showcased the talents of over 20 teams from three states. Olentangy Liberty emerged as the top team, securing first place in both boys and girls competitions. Local athletes also made their mark, with Union Local’s Johnny Sabinski dominating the throwing events by winning both the discus and shot put.

Sabinski, a Louisville University commit, expressed satisfaction with his performance despite competing in back-to-back meets. Buckeye Local’s Pam Kandrach also stood out, setting a personal record in the discus and finishing second in the shot put.

Wheeling Park’s Mykel Davis and Jillian Huffman claimed victory in the high jump events, with Davis setting a new school record by clearing 6’10”. Huffman matched her personal best with a 5’0″ jump, showing consistent improvement throughout the season.

The event was not just about individual performances, as relay teams from various schools also excelled. Weir’s girls team finished second in the 4×102.5-meter shuttle hurdles, while Magnolia’s Landen Davis and Shadyside’s Nathan Booth achieved personal bests in their respective events.

Overall, the Dick Dei Track Classic provided a platform for local athletes to showcase their skills against top competition, setting the stage for a successful remainder of the season.
