Tech CEOs including Microsoft’s Satya Nadella and Google’s Sundar Pichai join US board to address AI risks

Tech giants CEOs, including Microsoft, Google, and OpenAI, are stepping up to guide the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) on the safe development of artificial intelligence (AI). The newly formed advisory board, consisting of 22 members, aims to combat AI-related disruptions that could threaten national security, public health, or safety.

Among the notable members are Satya Nadella from Microsoft, Sundar Pichai from Google, and Jensen Huang from Nvidia. The board also includes CEOs from Adobe, AMD, Cisco, IBM, Delta Airlines, and Northrop Grumman. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella emphasized the importance of deploying AI responsibly, calling it the most transformative technology of our time.

The advisory board, chaired by Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, will convene for the first time in May to provide recommendations for the safe adoption of AI in essential services. Mayorkas highlighted the risks associated with embedding AI in critical infrastructure, stating that failure to do so responsibly could have devastating consequences.
