Tech Giants Gain Momentum in AI Industry

Microsoft, Apple, and Samsung are making significant strides in the AI chip market, each with their own unique developments and investments.

Microsoft recently announced an investment plan of over USD 11 billion, with a focus on developing a new AI mega-model called MAI-1. This model is expected to rival well-known large models like Google’s Gemini 1.5 and OpenAI’s GPT-4 in terms of performance. Additionally, Microsoft plans to invest billions of dollars in building AI infrastructure in Wisconsin, creating thousands of jobs in the process.

Apple, on the other hand, unveiled its first AI chip, M4, which boasts the most powerful neural engine the company has ever developed. Apple is also working on in-house chips designed to run AI software on data center servers, with the project codenamed ACDC. This move is expected to bring transformative opportunities to users and enhance Apple’s AI capabilities in the cloud.

Samsung is not far behind, with plans to start pilot production for its AI inference chip, Mach-1. This chip is set to be based on Samsung’s in-house 4nm process and is designed to reduce data bottlenecks and improve efficiency in edge computing applications. Samsung has also established a research lab in Silicon Valley focusing on general artificial intelligence (AGI) research, aiming to develop new processors and memory technologies for future AGI systems.
