India has emerged as a leader in the adoption of Generative AI technology across Asia Pacific, according to a recent survey by Deloitte. The report, titled “Generative AI in Asia Pacific: Young employees lead as employers play catch-up,” revealed that 93 percent of students and 83 percent of employees in India are actively engaging with Generative AI (GenAI).

The survey, which covered 11,900 individuals in Asia Pacific, highlighted India’s exceptional response to GenAI and positioned the country as a frontrunner among 13 countries for GenAI use and adoption. The report emphasized the need for employers and policymakers to adapt to this rapidly evolving technology.

One of the key findings of the report was the significant impact of GenAI on working hours, with GenAI users across Asia Pacific saving approximately 6.3 hours per week. In India, users were saving even more time, with an average of 7.85 hours per week. This time-saving aspect of GenAI was seen as enabling employees to acquire new skills and improve work-life balance.

Chris Lewin, Deloitte Asia Pacific’s AI & Data Capability Leader, highlighted the global impact of GenAI adoption, stating that businesses that fail to adapt to this technology may risk falling behind. Anjani Kumar, Partner, Consulting, Deloitte India, emphasized the transformative potential of GenAI in reshaping the future of work and unlocking growth opportunities.

The report also outlined three key actions for businesses to adopt in response to the rise of GenAI, including developing and implementing a GenAI strategy, empowering employees to own their AI journey, and iteratively developing data infrastructure as needed to embrace GenAI.

Overall, GenAI holds enormous potential to reshape the work and innovation landscape in India and across Asia Pacific, with businesses and universities poised to unlock unprecedented growth opportunities through the adoption of this transformative technology.
