Tee Higgins expects to play for Bengals this season

After initially requesting a trade out of Cincinnati before the start of free agency, Bengals receiver Tee Higgins seems to have had a change of heart. Speaking at a youth football camp, Higgins expressed his anticipation of playing for the Bengals next season, stating, “I’ve grown a love for Cincy that I didn’t think I would. But, you know, man — looking forward to it.”

This news comes after the Bengals placed the franchise tag on Higgins and failed to reach a long-term deal before the start of free agency. Despite rumors of a potential trade, Higgins now appears committed to staying in Cincinnati for at least one more season.

Higgins, a second-round pick out of Clemson in 2020, has been a key player for the Bengals, averaging 64 catches, 921 yards, and six touchdowns per season. He has formed a strong connection with quarterback Joe Burrow and is part of a dynamic receiving duo alongside Ja’Marr Chase.

The Bengals had a successful run in 2021 and 2022, reaching the AFC championship game in both seasons and making a Super Bowl appearance in 2021. However, injuries, including those to Burrow, derailed their 2023 season, resulting in a 9-8 record and a missed playoff opportunity.

With Burrow expected to return healthy next season, the Bengals are looking to bounce back and make another deep playoff run. Higgins’ decision to stay in Cincinnati is a positive development for the team and its fans as they aim to return to Super Bowl contention in the upcoming season.
