An Orchard City teen is fighting for his life after being shot in the head on May 3rd. The 15-year-old boy, identified as Kasen Spencer, was with a group of young people near an RV parked on property in the 1400 block of U.S. Highway 50 in northern Delta when the tragic incident occurred. Police are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting and have not yet determined what exactly happened or who is responsible.
Chief Luke Fedler stated that witnesses at the scene claimed the shooting was accidental, but authorities are not convinced. Kasen’s father, Brian Spencer, confirmed that surgical teams have ruled out the possibility of the boy causing the injury to himself. The family is currently facing a challenging situation as Kasen fights for his life in the hospital.
According to reports from Delta Police, they received a call about a juvenile being shot in the head with a shotgun at the RV around 6 p.m. on May 3rd. However, upon arrival, they discovered that Kasen had actually been shot with a .40 caliber handgun. The police recovered the weapon along with other evidence from the scene. Kasen was initially taken to Delta Health and then transferred to St. Mary’s Regional Hospital in Grand Junction before being airlifted to Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City for further treatment.
The incident involved six minors and two 18-year-olds, all of whom were present at the scene when the shooting occurred. While initial reports suggested that Kasen accidentally shot himself, Chief Fedler mentioned that there are inconsistencies in the statements provided by those present. As a result, the case remains open as detectives continue to investigate.
A GoFundMe page has been set up to support Kasen and his family during this difficult time. The fundraiser aims to cover medical and legal expenses as well as provide financial support for the family to be by Kasen’s side in Salt Lake City. The community has rallied behind the Spencer family, with donations pouring in to help them through this challenging period.
Kasen’s mother, Kailey, expressed her gratitude for the outpouring of support and stated that Kasen is showing small signs of improvement, giving the family hope for his recovery. A fundraiser event is scheduled at Route 65 Burgers & Fries in Eckert on May 11th, where all proceeds will go towards supporting the Spencer family.
As of Tuesday morning, the GoFundMe page has raised over $13,000, showcasing the community’s generosity and support for Kasen and his family. Brian Spencer emphasized that they are taking each day as it comes, hoping for Kasen’s steady progress and recovery. The family is touched by the overwhelming support and kindness shown during this challenging time.
