Cedar City’s 14-year-old singing sensation, Sydney Rasmussen, recently made waves at the North American Country Music Association International competition in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. Despite her young age, Rasmussen managed to secure second place as the Most Promising Vocalist and third place in the Rising Star Entertainer of the Year category.
The competition was attended by industry legends such as Randy Travis, Barbara Fairchild, and John Berry. Rasmussen wowed the audience with her gospel music performances, a genre she has been surrounded by since childhood due to her family’s strong ties to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Rasmussen’s journey to the international stage was inspired by her mentor, Chenille Sheeran, a Southern Utah University graduate who recognized Rasmussen’s talent and encouraged her to participate in local talent shows. Since then, Rasmussen has been on a winning streak, taking home titles from Cedar City’s Got Talent, Iron County’s Got Talent, and Star Search.
Apart from her musical pursuits, Rasmussen finds solace in playing soccer for Cedar High School and exercising for mental well-being. She is currently honing her vocal skills under the guidance of SUU instructor Jackie Jackson and enjoys singing Broadway and pop tunes in addition to classical music.
Rasmussen’s success at the competition not only highlights her exceptional talent but also underscores the supportive community and mentors who have played a crucial role in her musical journey. With a bright future ahead, Rasmussen continues to inspire others with her voice and dedication to her craft.
