Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has hit back at critics following his team’s narrow victory over Coventry in the FA Cup semi-final. Despite the team’s shaky performance, which saw them squander a 3-0 lead and rely on a penalty shootout to secure their spot in the final, ten Hag defended his team’s achievement.

Speaking at a news conference ahead of their Premier League game against Sheffield United, ten Hag slammed the media’s reaction to their win, calling it “embarrassing.” He pointed out that reaching back-to-back FA Cup finals is a significant accomplishment and deserving of praise.

With uncertainty surrounding his future at the club, ten Hag highlighted his successful track record, including winning the Dutch Cup with Ajax and reaching the Champions League semi-finals in 2019. He was brought in to lead Manchester United to success after a period of decline following Alex Ferguson’s retirement.

However, despite winning the English League Cup in his first season and qualifying for the Champions League, ten Hag’s second season has been less successful. Manchester United currently sits in seventh place in the Premier League standings, facing a significant gap to secure a spot in the Champions League next season.

With new co-owner Jim Ratcliffe implementing changes at the club, including the appointment of a new technical director and CEO, speculation is rife about ten Hag’s future at Manchester United. As they prepare to face Manchester City in the FA Cup final, ten Hag will be looking to silence his critics and secure a much-needed victory for his team.
