Reading Time: < 1 minute

The Parks & Recreation Department in Hopkinton is set to unveil its new tennis/pickleball courts with a grand opening celebration this Friday at 3 p.m. The courts, located at 17 Pratt Way, feature four dedicated pickleball courts and two tennis courts that can be converted for pickleball use.

The event will include a ribbon-cutting ceremony, food, drinks, and music, with Parks & Rec Department staff, Parks & Recreation Commission, and Community Preservation Committee members on hand to answer questions about the project. The courts will be open on a first-come, first-served basis throughout the summer, with plans for instructional programs, tournaments, and potential court reservations in the fall.

The project, funded by the Community Preservation Committee, was completed on time and within budget, thanks to collaboration between various town departments and committee members. The addition of the courts at Fruit Street has been eagerly anticipated by the community, with residents looking forward to enjoying the new facilities.

Pickleball, the fastest-growing sport in the United States, has seen a surge in popularity in recent years, with 8.9 million players in 2022. The new courts in Hopkinton are expected to attract players of all ages and skill levels, providing a much-needed recreational outlet for the community.

Regulations for court usage will be discussed at an upcoming Parks & Recreation Commission meeting, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable experience for all players. The completion of the project marks a significant milestone for the town, showcasing the power of teamwork and community collaboration in bringing a shared vision to life.
