In a horrifying attack on the Bilbis community in north-west Nigeria, terrorists have killed “at least 20” residents, including men, women, and children. The attack, which lasted over two hours, also left seven residents injured and in need of medical attention.

According to eyewitnesses, the terrorists rode into the village on motorcycles, blocking all entries and exits before opening fire indiscriminately. Some of the victims were shot while trying to flee to safety, while others were killed inside their own homes.

One resident, speaking on condition of anonymity for security reasons, described the attackers as being fully prepared and not attempting to kidnap anyone. Another resident, Lawal Bilbis, lamented the deteriorating security situation in the area, attributing it to a “collective silence” among the community and its leaders.

Despite the devastating loss of life, the police spokesperson in the state, Yazid Abubakar, remained unreachable for comment. The Islamic funeral prayer for the deceased was conducted on Friday, highlighting the tragic impact of the ongoing violence in the region.

Terrorist attacks in Zamfara State, particularly in areas like Tsafe, Zurmi, Maradun, Anka, and Bungudu, have been on the rise in recent weeks, despite efforts by security officials. The residents of Bilbis and other affected communities continue to live in fear as the violence and bloodshed show no signs of abating.
