Elon Musk’s decision to fire the entire Tesla supercharger team overnight sent shockwaves through the company, but now some executives and team members are being asked to return. According to reports, Max de Zegher, the director of charging for North America, is one of the employees asked to come back to the company.

The recent layoffs left many employees in disbelief, with one former employee even sharing his story of sleeping in his car to avoid a long commute before being laid off. The intense work culture promoted by Musk has led employees to go to great lengths to comply, with some even sleeping under their desks.

Despite the layoffs and revenue decrease reported during Tesla’s Q1 2024 earnings call, Musk remains focused on growing the Supercharger network. He recently tweeted that the company still plans to expand the network, albeit at a slower pace than originally anticipated.

In addition to the layoffs, college students who were offered summer internships at Tesla reported that their offers were revoked just weeks before they were set to start, leaving them without explanation.

As Tesla continues to navigate these changes, the company’s stock was up nearly 3% year over year as of Monday afternoon. With Musk at the helm, it remains to be seen how Tesla will adapt and grow in the face of these challenges.
