The Texas A&M Aggies made history in Stillwater, Okla., by capturing their program’s first NCAA Division I Women’s Tennis National Championship with a 4-1 victory over Georgia. The all-SEC championship match saw the Aggies avenge their 2013 finals loss by dominating the Bulldogs when it mattered most.
The match began outdoors but was moved indoors due to weather conditions, a change that favored Texas A&M as they surged ahead once play resumed. The Aggies secured wins in the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles positions, setting the tone for the rest of the match.
In singles play, Texas A&M continued their dominance by winning four first sets, ultimately clinching the title with victories on courts No. 1 and No. 5. Nicole Khirin sealed the deal for the Aggies with a hard-fought win on court No. 3, securing the program’s first national championship.
This victory marks Texas A&M as the fifth SEC team to win the NCAA Division I Women’s Tennis National Championship since 2010, joining the ranks of powerhouse programs like Florida and Vanderbilt. The Aggies’ road to the final was paved with impressive victories over top-ranked opponents, culminating in their historic triumph over Georgia.
With this win, Texas A&M solidifies their place among the elite programs in collegiate women’s tennis and sets the stage for future success in the seasons to come.
