Texas Congressman Tony Gonzales Criticizes Biden for Allowing 9.5 Million Migrants into the Country

The border crisis continues to escalate as U.S. Rep. Tony Gonzales, R-Texas, files a resolution condemning the Biden administration for its handling of immigration laws and border security. The resolution calls for a different approach to individuals entering the country illegally and urges the administration to address any national security threats that may arise.

Gonzales also called for the designation of the Venezuelan prison gang Tren de Aragua as a transnational criminal organization, citing their involvement in high-profile crimes in the U.S. The resolution alleges that the administration has incentivized 9.5 million migrants to come into the United States and released 6.4 million into the country. It also accuses the administration of failing to deport migrants who do not qualify for political asylum and abusing its discretion to mass parole applicants.

The bill has been referred to the House Judiciary Committee and the House Committee on Homeland Security for further review. Meanwhile, U.S. Customs and Border Protection data shows a staggering 9,411,440 million encounters nationwide since October 1, 2020, raising concerns about the capacity to handle asylum-seekers surrendering to authorities.

The resolution highlights the case of Jose Ibarra, a Venezuelan national and alleged member of Tren de Aragua, who was involved in the brutal killing of Georgia nursing student Laken Riley. Ibarra surrendered in El Paso, Texas, in September 2022 and was released on parole within a day, sparking outrage and calls for stricter immigration policies.

The government of Colombia has also initiated extradition procedures against Aderbis Segundo Pirela Pirela, another Venezuelan national and alleged co-leader of the Satanas gang, an offshoot of Tren de Aragua. Pirela is wanted on homicide charges in Colombia and is currently in U.S. immigration custody.
