Severe weather wreaked havoc across Texas, leaving more than 1 million homes and businesses without electricity at one point. The storms flooded streets in Houston for the second time this month and caused significant damage in Dallas, where a teenager tragically lost his life.

The teen was killed at a construction site in Dallas when a home collapsed, and three others were injured by a downed power line at a campground. The severe weather also led to power outages affecting over 1 million customers in Texas.

Electric utility Oncor stated that power should be restored for most customers in the Dallas area by Friday, but some outages may persist into the weekend. By Wednesday afternoon, about 70% of affected customers had their power restored.

In Houston, which was still reeling from a recent storm that claimed eight lives, a 16-year-old construction worker lost his life in the suburb of Magnolia. Additionally, a 6-year-old boy and two others were in critical condition after being shocked by a downed power line.

The stormy weather also caused disruptions in the voting process, with officials extending voting hours in Texas runoff elections due to power outages at polling places. The National Weather Service warned of continued severe weather in the central US, with the potential for heavy rains, flash flooding, and thunderstorms.

The destructive storms over the Memorial Day weekend claimed 24 lives across seven states in the South. The impact of the severe weather is a stark reminder of the unpredictable and dangerous nature of Mother Nature.
