Thailand’s Cabinet Approves Visa Promotions to Attract More Tourists

In a bid to boost tourism and stimulate the economy, Thailand’s cabinet has approved a range of visa promotions to attract more tourists from countries around the world, including Sri Lanka. Foreign Affairs Minister M.U.M. Ali Sabry announced that these measures include visa-free and visa-on-arrival schemes, longer stays for students, and reduced compulsory health insurance for retirees.

Sri Lankan tourists, along with visitors from 36 other countries, can now enter Thailand without a visa and stay for up to 60 days. This expansion increases the number of countries eligible for visa-free entry from 57 to 93, according to Thai government spokesman Chai Wacharonke.

The new visa policies also include an increase in the number of countries eligible for visa-on-arrival, work and travel visas for digital nomads and remote workers, and extended stay options for foreign students. These measures are set to take effect on Saturday, June 1, 2024.

The initiative aims to boost Thailand’s national economy, which heavily relies on tourism. The Foreign Ministry proposed these changes to attract as many visitors as possible, emphasizing the importance of tourism to Thailand’s economy.

With these new visa promotions in place, Thailand is hoping to attract a diverse range of tourists and boost its tourism industry in the coming years.
