The Dodgers couldn’t escape drama even with Shohei Ohtani’s first home run ball

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The Los Angeles Dodgers found themselves in hot water after a fan caught Shohei Ohtani’s milestone home run ball and was allegedly mistreated by team officials. The fan, identified as Ambar Roman, was escorted from her seat and pressured into giving up the valuable ball for minimal compensation.

According to Roman and her husband, they were separated, and she was surrounded by security guards who wouldn’t allow her to leave or consult with her husband. The Dodgers reportedly offered her two signed hats, a signed ball, and a signed bat in exchange for the ball, which was estimated to be worth at least $100,000 by an auction house.

The situation escalated when the Dodgers allegedly threatened to refuse to authenticate the ball if Roman decided to keep it, effectively rendering it worthless. This move would have not only deprived Roman of the opportunity to sell the ball but also put the team in an awkward position with their star player, Ohtani.

Despite Ohtani claiming that he was able to speak with the fan and retrieve the ball, Roman and her husband maintain that they never met him. The Dodgers have yet to address the allegations beyond a brief statement expressing openness to further discussion.

This incident serves as a cautionary tale for fans who may find themselves in possession of a valuable sports artifact. While teams may try to pressure fans into giving up such items, it is important for fans to know their rights and stand their ground. In this case, the Dodgers’ mishandling of the situation has only added to the team’s already tumultuous season.
