The Central College men’s tennis team secured a convincing 8-1 victory over Buena Vista University in their latest American Rivers Conference match. Despite a strong start from the Beavers, the Dutch managed to take control and dominate the singles matches.
Head coach Ryun Ferrell praised his team’s performance, highlighting standout victories from players like Alejo Marcon, Ayden Fletcher, AJ Wilkins, Travis Subbert, and Alex Slaymaker. Marcon’s 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles was particularly impressive, with Ferrell commending his relentless playstyle.
In doubles play, Wilkins and Subbert secured an 8-6 win at No. 1, while Fletcher and Slaymaker claimed an 8-5 victory at No. 2. Ernest Alvarez Chedzoy and Marcon completed the doubles sweep with an 8-7 (7-4) win at No. 3.
With the win, Central College has solidified a top-four finish in the conference and has a chance to finish as high as second with two more wins this weekend. The team will face off against Wartburg College on Friday at 4 p.m. and Coe College on Saturday at 10 a.m.
Coach Ferrell expressed confidence in his team’s readiness for the upcoming matches, emphasizing the opportunity to end the season on a high note against tough opponents. The Dutch are eager to embrace the challenge and continue their winning streak in the conference.
