The Early Childhood Education and Care Department seeks parents’ feedback to enhance services

The Early Childhood Education and Care Department (ECECD) in New Mexico is reaching out to families to gather feedback on childcare services. With as many as 30,000 families qualifying for free childcare, the state wants to understand why some families are unable to access these services.

Sara Mickelson, ECECD Deputy Cabinet Secretary, emphasized the importance of hearing directly from parents to identify areas for improvement. The department has launched a survey for parents to share their experiences with childcare services, identify barriers they face, and suggest ways to enhance the system.

One of the key findings from last year’s survey was the need for more childcare options in the state. Mickelson highlighted the significance of this feedback in shaping future investments in childcare facilities and programs.

The information gathered from the survey will also be crucial in advocating for additional funding for childcare services. It may even support initiatives to help New Mexicans establish their own home childcare businesses.

Parents who participate in the survey will receive a $5 gift card, and the process is expected to take around 15 minutes. Mickelson encouraged all families with young children in New Mexico to participate and share their needs and concerns.

The survey will remain open for the next three weeks, providing an opportunity for parents to have their voices heard and contribute to the improvement of childcare services in the state.
