In a remarkable achievement, Jonas Hartenstein has been named the 2024 Men’s Tennis ASUN Player and Scholar Athlete of the Year. Despite falling in the first round of the NCAA National Tournament, Hartenstein’s leadership led the UNF men’s tennis team to its third ASUN Tournament title and a national tournament bid.

Reflecting on his decision to return for another year, Hartenstein shared, “Initially, I didn’t want to come back for this year because I graduated with my bachelor’s degree. But then, I wanted to do my master’s and get my last year in.” Head Coach Matt Lucas praised Hartenstein’s academic excellence, noting his 4.0 undergraduate GPA and dedication to pursuing his master’s degree while balancing a rigorous tennis schedule.

In addition to his academic and athletic achievements, Hartenstein also started his own college tennis recruiting agency to help ease the transition for international players like himself. Coach Lucas emphasized that Hartenstein embodies the perfect student-athlete, setting a high standard for his teammates both on and off the court.

Looking ahead, Hartenstein plans to graduate with his master’s degree in December and pursue a professional tennis career while expanding his recruiting agency. His dedication to excellence and commitment to both academics and athletics make him a standout player and role model for aspiring student-athletes.
