The Bush Tennis Center in Midland is making a positive impact on the community through its Ace Outreach Program, which aims to introduce students across West Texas to the sport of tennis and provide them with positive role models. Started in 2016, the program has already reached 200,000 kids statewide, with 40,000 of them being local to the Permian Basin.
Executive Director Tim Stallard emphasized the importance of connecting area youth with positive role models through tennis, stating that the program focuses on advising, counseling, and encouraging children to learn life lessons through the sport. Outreach Coordinators like Edgar Lazcano and Tommy Heiting have seen firsthand how the program helps kids develop a love for tennis and provides them with opportunities they may not have had otherwise.
One of the highlights of the Ace Outreach Program is the chance for kids to meet world-famous athletes like Venus Williams, Sloane Stephens, and the Bryan Brothers. Stallard mentioned that the program has supported 100% of the kids who have participated, thanks to the generous support of the Midland/Odessa community.
