The inaugural astro tourism campaign in India

The Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board and Starscapes have joined forces to launch Nakshatra Sabha, a groundbreaking initiative that promises to revolutionize the world of astro-tourism. This unique collaboration aims to provide participants with an immersive experience that goes beyond traditional stargazing, offering a wide range of activities such as solar observations, astrophotography contests, and camping under the stars.

The project has garnered excitement from the Secretary of Tourism for the Government of Uttarakhand, who sees the state’s potential to become a leading destination for astronomy enthusiasts. With its lush forests, nature-based tourism opportunities, and well-developed hospitality sector, Uttarakhand is poised to attract astro tourists from around the globe.

Nakshatra Sabha is scheduled to kick off in early June at George Everest in Mussoorie, with events planned to continue until mid-2025 at various locations across the state. These events will not only offer unparalleled stargazing experiences but also explore potential night sky sites in districts like Uttarkashi, Pithoragarh, Nainital, and Chamoli.

Moreover, the initiative will include seminars and webinars led by experts in the field, providing educational opportunities for participants and local residents interested in astronomy and tourism. By promoting dark sky conservation and advocating for the preservation of night skies, Nakshatra Sabha aims to create a sustainable astro-tourism industry in Uttarakhand.
