The Independent questions White House on humanitarian aid efforts in Gaza

The humanitarian crisis in Gaza has reached a critical point, with the United States facing mounting pressure to increase aid efforts in the region. During a White House press briefing, White House correspondent Andrew Feinberg challenged Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre on the administration’s response to the crisis.

Feinberg questioned the delay in linking defense aid to humanitarian aid, despite warnings from NGOs and aid groups about an imminent famine in Gaza. Jean-Pierre defended the US efforts, citing air drops and the construction of a temporary pier in the Mediterranean Sea to facilitate aid delivery.

President Joe Biden has faced criticism for not conditioning military aid to Israel on the allowance of humanitarian aid into Gaza. However, Jean-Pierre emphasized the ongoing efforts to secure a hostage deal that includes provisions for humanitarian aid delivery.

As the death toll in Gaza continues to rise, with over 33,000 casualties reported during the conflict between Israel and Hamas, the need for immediate and substantial aid has become increasingly urgent. The international community is closely monitoring the situation, urging swift action to alleviate the suffering of the people in Gaza.
