Google has recently laid off its entire Python team in a cost-cutting move, according to a report by Free Press Journal. The decision comes as part of the tech giant’s strategy to hire less expensive labor outside the United States. The company is reportedly planning to establish a new team in Munich, Germany, which would serve as a more cost-effective option.

The layoffs have impacted several employees at Google, with one employee sharing his experience on LinkedIn. Matt Hu, a software engineer who had been with Google for two years, described the moment he received the news as “the longest night” of his life. He recounted how he was preparing for an interview when he suddenly lost access to corporate resources and received an email notifying him of his termination.

In response to the layoffs, a Google spokesperson stated that the company is letting go of an unspecified number of employees as part of its cost-cutting measures. The spokesperson clarified that the layoffs are not company-wide and affected employees will have the opportunity to apply for internal roles. Additionally, a small percentage of the impacted roles will be relocated to hubs in India, Chicago, Atlanta, and Dublin.

The news of the layoffs at Google adds to the growing concerns about job cuts in the tech and media industry amid economic uncertainty. With the ongoing trend of layoffs across various sectors, employees are facing increased uncertainty about their job security.
