The Ox Shoppe Cafe in Madison Township: More Than Just Doughnuts and Coffee

The Ox Shoppe Cafe in Madison Township is not your average doughnut and coffee shop. This nonprofit artisanal store is part of a larger organization that helps individuals facing barriers to employment find meaningful and dignified jobs.

Located at 6661 North Ridge Road, The Ox Shoppe Cafe opened its doors on March 1, offering a variety of delicious doughnuts, coffee, and baked goods. The cafe is an extension of The Ox Shoppe in Thompson Township, which serves as a farm store, coffee shop, and training center for individuals with barriers to employment.

Husband and wife team, Darrell and Dawn Fleming-Kendall, originally planned to sell meat from their farm at The Ox Shoppe in Thompson. However, their vision expanded to include a nonprofit component to help adults with disabilities, individuals in recovery, post-incarceration re-entry, and more.

The Ox Shoppe Cafe in Madison Township serves as a place for job training and work experience for clients, with sales revenue going towards paying workers and covering operational costs. The cafe has already seen success in its mission, with 18 individuals being placed in meaningful work positions since its opening.
