Reading Time: 2 minutes

Digital Dubai’s participation at GITEX Africa 2024 has opened up a world of opportunities for collaboration and knowledge sharing in the realm of Artificial Intelligence (AI). With a strong contingent of 50 individuals representing nine Dubai government entities, the focus is on understanding the developments in the African public and private sectors related to technology and ecosystems.

The surge in AI adoption globally has not left Africa behind, with the continent poised to embrace AI innovations for sustainable development, economic growth, and social empowerment. Reports indicate that spending on AI in the Middle East, Turkey, Africa region is set to exceed $3.0 billion this year, marking a significant increase from the previous year. The African AI market is projected to grow by 30% annually over the next six years, reaching a value of $17 billion.

One of the key areas where AI is expected to make a significant impact is healthcare. AI-powered solutions such as diagnostics, predictive analytics, and telemedicine have the potential to revolutionize healthcare delivery in Africa, making it more accessible and cost-effective. Additionally, AI-driven agricultural technologies hold promise for addressing food security challenges by optimizing crop yields and improving overall agricultural productivity.

In Dubai, AI is driving the city’s vision for a smart and sustainable future. Initiatives such as the Dubai Centre for Artificial Intelligence and the DubaiAI Chatbot are paving the way for Dubai to become a global leader in AI implementation. The recently launched Dubai Universal Blueprint for Artificial Intelligence aims to double the city’s economy over the next decade and enhance the quality of life for residents.

Embracing AI responsibly and ethically is crucial for unlocking the full potential of this technology. The UAE Strategy for Artificial Intelligence is aligned with the country’s vision for the future, focusing on boosting government performance, creating new economic opportunities, and fostering collaboration to harness the transformative power of AI. With a concerted effort from governments, private sector stakeholders, and civil society, AI can be a catalyst for positive change, prosperity, and human advancement in Africa and beyond.
