Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammed Al Qasimi, the Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, has made a significant announcement by signing Emiri Decree No. 15 of 2024 to establish the University of Al Dhaid. This non-profit scientific institution in the Arab region will specialize in agriculture, environment, food, and livestock.
During his visit to the Al Dhaid University building, Sheikh Dr. Sultan expressed his pleasure in announcing the establishment of the University of Dhaid and highlighted the various facilities and projects that will support its scientific mission. These include the wheat farm, the Saba Sanabel project, the vegetable farm, the dairy farm, the seed bank, and other essential facilities, centers, laboratories, and projects.
The University of Al Dhaid is set to commence the registration and admission of both male and female students at the beginning of the academic year 2024-2025. Sheikh Dr. Sultan extended his best wishes for the success of the university and the incoming students.
As per the Emiri Decree, an Arab non-profit academic institute is required to be established in the Emirate of Sharjah, leading to the creation of the University of Al Dhaid. The university will have legal status, financial autonomy, and administrative autonomy to fulfill its goals effectively.
Sheikh Dr. Sultan has been appointed as the president of the university, and a law will be issued to organize the university, including its colleges, departments, and administration. Additionally, the Board of Trustees of the University of Dhaid has been established, with members including distinguished individuals from various fields.
Furthermore, Sheikh Dr. Sultan appointed Dr. Aisha Ahmed Mohammed Abu Shlaibi as the Chancellor of the University of Dhaid and Dr. Melissa Fitzgerald as the Dean of the College of Agriculture at the university. The College of Agriculture at the University of Dhaid will offer a range of departments and courses to produce specialized engineers in various fields.
Sheikh Dr. Sultan emphasized the practical opportunities that Al Dhaid University will provide to its students, equipping them with hands-on experience in their chosen fields. The university has made preparations for agriculture and veterinary medicine students to acquire theoretical and practical knowledge by providing classrooms in established projects and granting each student a plot of agricultural land to cultivate.
