The Significance of Teaching Children that Exercise Can Be Enjoyable: Insights from Joe Wicks

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Fitness guru Joe Wicks, also known as ‘The Body Coach,’ has shared his morning routine and tips for staying active and healthy. Wicks, who gained popularity during lockdown for his free ‘PE with Joe’ workouts, emphasizes the importance of starting the day with exercise to set a positive tone.

With three young children and another on the way, Wicks tries to wake up at 6am for a 30-minute workout before making breakfast for the family. He enjoys high-intensity and bodyweight exercises, as well as cycling, long walks, and riding his motorbike. Wicks also finds relaxation in ice baths and cold showers.

Now, Wicks has partnered with Aviva health insurance and fitness app Strava for the 30-day #MoveWithAviva campaign. The initiative encourages people to prioritize their health by engaging in at least 10 minutes of activity daily throughout April. This could include running, quick workouts, gardening, or mindfulness exercises.

Wicks believes in the power of short bursts of activity, especially as a parent who wants to be present for his children. He involves his kids in fun activities like ‘stuck in the mud,’ hide and seek, and cooking, emphasizing the importance of teaching them healthy habits.

The campaign aims to promote self-belief and show that fitness doesn’t have to be complicated or intense. Wicks encourages focusing on getting fitter and building strength rather than solely on body image. By incorporating small, daily habits, Wicks believes individuals can boost their mood, energy, and overall wellbeing.
